Product Description

From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army Knife more than a century ago comes the Signature Lite, a handy multi-tool for campers, hikers, boy scouts, and just about everyone else. Measuring 2-1/4 inches long, the Signature Lite is stylishly cased in translucent blue housing with the familiar Victorinox logo on the side. More importantly, the unit contains several stainless-steel and plastic tools appropriate for just about any occasion. The standard tools include a small blade, a nail file with a screwdriver, and a small set of scissors. However, the multi-tool also offers a mini LED Red light (18,000 mcd) that's ideal for power outages or finding your keys in the dark, along with a retractable ballpoint pen.

As with all Victorinox items, the Signature Lite is made to exacting standards, with dozens of individual parts and hundreds of steps going into its construction. Victorinox attends to every detail, from selecting the finest materials to performing the final inspection. In addition, each individual tool has been hardened in a different way to stand up to its designated use. Outfitted with a plastic housing, the Signature Lite carries a lifetime warranty.

About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Perfect keychain companion

I love these classic swiss army knives! This version is an improvement, with the red LED and pen being more useful to me than the toothpick and tweezers.
Great little knife

I keep a knife like this on my keychain. My inlaws make fun of it, but always want to use it. 8-)
The pen is somewhat hard to write with, but always very handy. The light somewhat dim, but again, very useful when you need it. And the knife while small is great for small cutting.
I keep loosing this when I fly; thought I had packed it, but can't find it now (since it won't go through airport security). time for another one.
Most useful

By far the most useful Swiss Army product for my needs. Small size is perfect for keychain or pocket. I rarely used the toothpick or tweezers on other small S.A. knives, but the ballpoint pen comes in handy quite often. I agree with other reviewers that a white LED would be preferable, but the red works okay when you need a quick light ... and people are always impressed by it! Battery and pen are both easy to replace when needed -- a real plus. But I've used one of these knives for years and have never had to replace either one. I've found THIS ITEM MAKES A GREAT SMALL GIFT ... and is always appreciated by the recipient.

I did not pay so much atention for the size. It is really small. But the quality is always good.
Thank you!

This is the perfect size and very convenient. I got it for my fiance and said that every man needs one.
Best of the "Classic" size

For everyday keychain duty, this is the mini-Victorinox to go with. The Classic is a classic for a reason; its blade, scissors, and nail file-screwdriver are the light tools you're most likely to need in a day, in the smallest possible pacage. The Signature Lite replaces the Classic's removable toothpick and tweezers with a pair of far more valuable tools: a ballpoint pen and an LED light.

Neither is ideal; the light is relatively dim, by LED standards, and the pen isn't particularly comfortable for long-term writing, but having this SAK on your keychain is worth it: you'll never be without a pen or a light when you need one.

Victorinox could sink a slam-dunk and get five stars if they'd use bright white LEDs instead of red ones (even if the knife cost a few bucks more). This is a good product, but LED technology's moved on, and Victorinox isn't keeping up like they could.
Mostly good

Okay, so, I've been a big victorinox fan most of my life. So it was nice to get back to basics.

I originally got this one because I had to switch phones. My last cell phone had a light on it and I felt handicapped without one. I made careful selection of the type of knife I chose to insure that I got a WHITE light. However, the one that shipped had a red one. Thus, one star off.

Also, though it's not shown at all, I though, somehow, that the trusty toothpick and tweezers would be in this model. They aren't. I'll gladly give them both up for the ballpoint pen, but a pen AND light... screw 'em. The scissors are really dinky, smaller than the full-sized ones, or even the wallet card. Still nice an sharp though.

All in all, a welcome addition to my keychain, but I would have preferred getting what was advertised.
Pen can be fixed...

I was very disappointed at first because the pen didn't work. I kept scratching it on paper and couldn't get the ink to flow. I finally took the pen refill out and dropped it in a bowl of hot water from the tap (not boiling water, but a little too hot to be comfortable). I came back in 20 minutes, took the pen refill out, and it immediately started writing.

Would be five stars if the pen would work out of the box without having to do this fix. But I'm satisfied now that it does work and glad I didn't have to send it back. It is a cute little knife otherwise and the dim red LED is okay with me... red LEDs are more efficient, so the batteries should last a while, and the color and dimness will help preserve your night vision.
Good first Swiss Army knife

A bit smaller than expected. Overall it's a good knife. Key chain feature is fantastic. We bought it for my boyfriend's younger brother and he seems to like it.
Great Knife, not so great LED.

I had a similar knife that I got as a gift that had a bright white LED on it. When my daughter (yes, I will blame her) lost my key ring, I decided that I really needed to replace my Swiss Army Knife. I guess I should have read the description better, because I did not realize it was a RED LED until it arrived.

As in other reviews, the RED LED is really not that useful. I used the white LED in my old knife many times and it was very handy to have. This RED LED is not as bright and in my opinion, not as useful. I find that when I need a night, I need a bright light, not a red light to perserve my night vision or to be stealthy. This is about the only flaw with this knife.

I have always had a Swiss Army Knife on my key chain since I can remember. All the tools are very useful if they are ever needed. I especially like having a pen handy to jot down phone numbers or notes. If anyone ever needs a pen, they always turn to me and ask if they can borrow mine. So I just hand them my knife.

Overall, a great knife/tool. Just needs a brighter white light.
