In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. This is a great piece. I got it for my father in law. Its a sturdy knife and appears more than durable. The victorinox website lays out all of the features but it doesnt describe the size. This is a big knife. The blade is big, the seatbelt cutter is big, the grip is big. Its larger and thicker than a standard pocket knife because thats not what its intended for. That being said the grip fits comfortably in hand and it comes with a nylon case with belt loop. I wouldnt recommend trying to take it on a plane or anywhere where you might get frisked, as due to the size, authorities might mistake it for a weapon. But as an in car safety tool, I dont think you could ask for more.
I also want to note that the Chelsea Watch Co., whom I purchased the knife from, was excellent. I ordered the knife on monday, asked for expedited shipping, and had it in hand when I got home from work on wednesday. Not only that, but they were the only ones who had the knife in stock anywhere in NY or on websites that I could find.
This gets my full endorsement. |

Being Swiss, it's even a little harder not to be overenthusiastic about the Wenger/Victorinox contribution to the Great Outdoors. After a trip around the world backpacking, dragging the hunter's version trough grit/sand and salt, with utter confidence and only minimal maintenance, I'm still amazed they could come with an even better one.
My favourite is the protected tip blade, I find it well designed, of useful size and angulation. One feels safe to use it on a victim. We use it to cut heavy ski jackets and trousers open, cut safety belt, and it works like the dedicated pound-heavy hospital tool. The locking blade is easy to open and its serrations are dead on for the thick rope or tough rubber.
It is heavier than the camping/hunting version BUT the added features and traditional ruggedness outweigh that disadvantage. |

| This tool is certainly up to the task. As another reviewer said, this is no pocket knife. It is a large tool for tough, life-depends-on-it jobs. Can be operated while wearing gloves! True to Victorinox heritage, it is well-designed and high quality. |

| I purchased this tool after watching the Victorinox demonstration video and reading several reviews. It is well made, as you would expect from Victorinox and solid. It's not a pocket knife though as it is pretty bulky. The handles glow in the dark and it comes with a rugged sheath. The blades are very, very sharp (careful!) and looks like it could handle just about any rescue situation that might require cutting. This would be a great addition to a vehicle emergency kit or glove box. |

I am knife collector and I can tell this one is the best from Victorinox (Swiss Army) and one of my best knives among more than 200 knives. Price is very reasonable, and the most important thing is this one still is Swiss Made not Chinese

| I am an outdoors person and I own quite a few knives. Recently, I purchased the Swiss Army Rescue Tool and I have to say I was quite impressed. One fundamental problem I have had with Swiss Army knives is their handle size. I have big hands and I am not comfortable with knives that have a handle under 4 inches long. That is not a problem with this tool. I was also pleased with the variety of tools. The knife blade is large, as is the saw. The seat belt cutter is much more functional than other models; particularly the ring shaped ones. The window breaker is impressive and its coupling with a saw tool showed some real thought. I am very happy with this purchase and I keep this in my car. I should also note that at the time of my purchase Amazon was as much as $30 cheaper for this product than other vendors. |

| My wife bought this knife for me for Christmas. I am always a bit skeptical of the latest and greatest thing, but I gave this knife a try, and was quite impressed. On a recent deer hunt, I gutted, skinned, and quartered a deer using just this knife. Now it obviously didn't do the job better than specialized tools, and it needed sharpening after the fact, but did the job well. I am fully confident that if I had to extract a person from a car, or bring down a corrupt organization single-handedly with McGuyver-like finesse, this would be my choice of Swiss-Army Knife. If I could only have one knife this one would be hard to part with; my Air Force pilot survival knife would have quite a competitor. Sharp as a razor, one of the only knives NOT made in China, and definitely worth the purchase price. |

| I bought this as a Christmas present for my fiancee, who is a paramedic. Before giving it to her, of course I had to open it up and check it out. What a stout piece of equipment! Very nice quality, rugged functionality and not cumbersome at all. I tested with a pair of latex gloves, and also a pair of leather frisking gloves and was able to access all the functions unhindered. Made to live with a lifetime of abuse, several of the components, such as the glass cutter, are replaceable, which means no more sinking money into new knives every year or so. Finally, the pouch is made of sturdy material, large enough to access through uniform attire, and fits easily onto a 2-2.5" duty belt, making this tool readily accessible at a moment's notice! |
