| In 1884, Master Cutler Karl Elsener started his cutlery factory in the small village of Ibach, Switzerland. In 1897, he crafted the Victorinox Original Swiss Army Knife. Since that time, the Elsener family has continued to craft tools in the Victorinox tradition of in genius design, durability, and quality. This is why all Victorinox multi-tools, made of first class stainless steel, are guaranteed a lifetime against defects in material and workmanship. Remember, if it doesn't say Victorinox, it's not the Original Swiss Army Knife. |

Perfect Daily Carry Large SAK

I have had my share of Swiss Army Knives (SAKs) over the years. Victorinox makes SO many different models, but none of them seem to be perfect for everything. This one comes VERY close.
RULE #1 - For a full size SAK, don't go more than 2 layers thick unless you'll be carrying it on a belt sheath. More than that and it is a huge lump in your pocket, and not the good kind. 2 layers max for packability.
RULE #2 - Make sure you have the following tools: knife, scissors, bottle opener/screwdriver/mini pry bar. They are dead useful.
Don't discount the usefulness of the other tools. Who hasn't been caught without a ball point pen, tweezers, toothpick, pin, or eyeglass screwdriver at some point? All this, and it is still only 2 layers thick.
If you want something close to the size of the Classic, but with the additional usefulness of the bottle opener, look at the Manager models. They're two layers thick instead of one, so they're a slightly bigger lump in the ol' pocket, but two layers is doable.
Too bad they can't figure out how to have the "silver alox" handles and still have the small implements. |
Just right size and functionality

I like the black finish over the classic red. The black finish, I think, is more sylish and makes it look different from the normal Swiss Army knives. The black finish is similar to that used for the Mont Blanc pens (visually, at least).
The model is just about the right size. It is not too 'fat' like the knives that have a whole bunch of features. It has just the features I need most often for everyday activites. The scissor and the knife is essential. There is the bottle opener and the corkscrew. The hook, I think is more useful than the reamer which is more common.
It is hard to believe that a product of this quality can be bought for about $20. Or that it's manufacture has not moved to China. |
The most useful tools in a compact package

Has all the tools I actually use. Rides easily in a pocket. Typical high-quality Swiss workmanship. Classic, people-friendly design. Makes a great gift for anyone, but be sure to get one for yourself, too.
The only downside is the "multi-purpose" hook, for which I can't imagine even one practical use for. The literature shows carrying some kind of parcel wrapped in string. I haven't carried a parcel wrapped in string in, I don't know, 100+ years. If they replaced the hook with a phillips screwdriver or an awl this would be the perfect carry knife. |

| Very compact for so many uses. I've purchased several over the last 30 years. (Thanks baggage handlers, TSA, and deep chairs.) This model is never available in stores and this seller has the best price. |

| I love this compact pocket knife. I had an identical model for about 10 years before I had to part ways with it at a security check point. This model has an excellent knife blade and the corkscrew is incredibly strong (never had a wine bottle I couldn't open with it). Additionally, I've used the pen countless times. Would highly recommend. |

| Greatest functionality in a decent pocket knife (vice pen knife) size. Can/bottle opener tool performs both functions well. Scissors are a must. I have actually used the cork screw a number of times. Pen's a little too dinky for me to write with legibly. Pin? Yeah, ok, I think I've used that too. But THE HOOK???? I agree with the other reviewer, replace it with an awl. Otherwise, a superbly designed knife that is with me everywhere except aircraft - THANKS AL QAEDA! |
Swiss Army Compact Pocket Knife

This knife is around the same dimensions as the Spartan, Tinker, etc. That means it bears the length of the 3.5 inch knives (closed) with the least amount of width. Its features, which are included in the description are functional besides the hook and the straight pin, not that I'm complaining. Quality of the knife overall is very good (as usual) except for the fact that the tip of my blade seemed slightly rounded. Perhaps it is an isolated issue.
On a personal note I bought this knife to replace my Soldier knife which (I wanted to keep it in good condition) has a slightly more sturdy handling and in my opinion is truly the most beautifully designed knife aesthetically and functionally. For reference, the Soldier is slightly thinnner than the Compact and while the blade is opened the Soldier is slightly longer, maybe it's because the Soldier blade is perfectly pointed? |

| I got one of these for each guy in my family, including my adult daughter's boyfriend. I think a Swiss Army knife is something every guy should have. Very handy and it could allow a guy to "save the day." |
